Many of today’s urbanites have become too busy to enjoy any measure of romance in their pressured, daily lives. Fortunately, there is a place here in the Central Sierra Gold Country where life can be experienced at a slower pace with time to enjoy the surroundings of nature and one another. The McCaffrey House Bed & Breakfast Inn near the village of Twain Harte was designed and built especially for those who are seeking peace and serenity, style, beauty, and romance.
The Inn is a bit removed from the rest of the Gold Country, both in looks and location. At an elevation of 4,000 feet the setting is distinctly alpine as the foothills start turning into full-fledged mountains. The house is nestled among the oaks, pines, and cedars of a forest hollow. A small creek runs along the rear of the property.
There are seven private rooms, each tastefully decorated and exuding country elegance. All the rooms feature down comforters and pillows, fluffy robes, cozy bay windows, and gas fireplaces. Five of the rooms have balconies or patios for outdoor relaxing.
When the morning sun filters through the evergreens, guests enjoy coffee on the decks or take a short stroll through the woods. A gourmet, candlelight breakfast is served each morning in the central dining room. When the weather is warm, breakfast is served on the deck umbrella tables surrounded by the evergreen forest.
In the early evening, wine or sparkling cider is served in the living room with a fire burning in the fireplace; or on the decks where guests can enjoy birds singing their evening song while watching the sunset. The view from the decks is inspiring – in the winter snow might be falling, in the fall guests can enjoy a harvest moon, spring and summer a blanket of stars fills the sky and the moon can be seen rising over the towering trees. A sight you will not find in the city lights.
There are four seasons of romantic activities in the neighboring forests and hamlets. In spring, summer or fall, take a picnic lunch to nearby Pinecrest Lake. Stroll through the trees on a well-marked trail that skirts the scenic shoreline. Stop at one of the many inlets of sandy beach or giant granite boulders warmed by the sun and dangle your feet in the cooling, clear water. Perhaps you would rather go boating on the lake in a canoe or kayak.
Jeff and Elizabeth of Murrieta, CA were so inspired by their stay that they left this poem in our guest comments book:
What wondrous bounty did we savor,
the sights looked upon with favor.
Nature’s beauty did surround us,
Her sound a love song all around us.
The fires glow a light to warm,
as we made love beneath the storm.
The house’s charm, a view to behold
this stay fed our bodies, mind and soul.
As we both grow older, memories fade,
we’ll keep forever the remembrances here made.
