“There are still a few quiet places to hide up there, and we found one just east of Twain Harte. It was in a bed and breakfast called the McCaffrey House, set off the main road, among trees that reached halfway to heaven … you could leave the windows open and hear the trees whisper. It’s a great place …. ”

“We had a wonderful stay!!!! What began as simply a place to stay near Yosemite, turned out to be the highlight of our trip! The backdrop of trees from our balcony was breathtaking! The dinner was 5 star! Breakfast was also 5 Star. And the hosts were wonderful! We would stay there again in a heartbeat!!! Everything you could ever want was provided!! The hosts thought of everything!”

John Muir said, “Thousands of tired, nerve shaken, over civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountain is going home; that wilderness is a necessity; that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.”

“The consistent 5 stars are well earned. We don’t travel often any more so when we do we want the places we stay to be special, McCaffrey House exceeded that expectation and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner has created an immaculate retreat from the world that yet has every necessary modern amenity. The setting and architectural interest of the 8 room house is captivating. Our room with 2 queen beds (Sage) was large, comfortable and we slept well. The breakfast was exceptional and the hostess / owner was a joy to chat with. When someone knows how to deliver a great guest experience and then custom builds a house just to be a top flight B&B, you get McCaffrey House.”

About Twain Harte
Travelers and locals alike are attracted today by the same qualities that drew the Mi-Wuk Indians here over 100 years ago. The beauty of the area, the four seasons, but yet mild weather, the abundance of tall pines, spruce and cedars, the hue of fall colors, the dusting of snow in the winter, the wild flowers in spring and Twain Harte Lake in the summer. Rivers and streams and lakes abound for those who like to fish and of course hunting season brings people into the Stanislaus National Forest from all over the central valley.
“Beautiful B and B in the Quiet Summer Woods: We decided to get out of town to loosen up after 2.5 years of COVID isolation at home. What a lovely B and B in the woods by a babbling creek!! The breakfasts were sumptuous and our two dogs found Olie, the beautiful Golden Retriever, to be a gracious canine greeter. Stephanie, the Innkeeper, is a sweet, funny and kind lady who has great taste in her spacious, well-appointed rooms which were so comfy and inviting. We loved our five days!!! In fact, we have booked a week in October! Be sure to try the amazing food at Eprosan restaurant in downtown Twain Harte: the general manager is Stephanie’s son. Like Stephanie, he has a knack for delicious food and hospitality with a staff who love working for him. Thank you McCafferty family for a wonderful, restful and fun long weekend.”

“A cozy dream! We spontaneously decided to drive up to experience the snow. The McCaffery House Bed And Breakfast Inn exceeded our expectations. Stephanie and Nannette were wonderful hosts and welcoming to our Corgi as well. Our spacious and cozy second floor room afforded a beautiful birds eye view of the snow falling outside with the fire place providing warmth and atmosphere. The breakfast was hearty and delicious and beautifully served in their lovely dining room. Parking is convenient and all the individual rooms as well as the House have good security. We hope to return soon.“
